This set of Windsor 375 model Ercol chairs were dark stained for the Old Colonial range in the late 1950s/early1960s. The Windsor collection was Ercol’s most successful range of furniture and the Old Colonial range was a departure from Ercol’s core philosophy of retaining the natural wood.
The dark wax finish appealed to British consumers’ love of reproduction furniture and was reminiscent of traditional oak furniture.
Most importantly, it was an aspiration of Ercolani himself to turn backwards to a time of “English born tradition in the best English style”
The chair design is inspired by Spanish colonial style as evident in the back slats with the delicate fleur-de-lis patterns. The seat is oyster shaped.
In the 1960s, the Old Colonial and Windsor ranges were brought back within the underpinning core philosophy and stained wood products were no longer produced.
Ercol design is renowned for its simplicity and commitment to enduring quality and style. These classic chairs are no exception.
The dark stain and attractive outline of these delightful chairs is in keeping with current trends and would fuse well with any contemporary setting, either as dining or occasional chairs.
